How often should an Oahu home be repainted?

Most Oahu exteriors need repainting every five to eight years, compared to ten or more on the mainland. Coastal and full-sun elevations weather fastest. Why does a house in Kailua need different paint than one in Ewa Beach?

They fail in opposite ways. Windward Kailua holds moisture and grows mildew in the shade, so coatings need to breathe or trapped moisture lifts them off the substrate. Ewa Beach bakes under constant sun, where UV resistance and film integrity matter most. The same product applied to both will fail early on one of them.

Do you paint homes near the ocean on Oahu?

Metal fasteners, railings, and flashing typically corrode before the paint film shows failure, so those components get corrosion-inhibiting primers as standard rather than as an add-on.

A house in Kailua and a house in Ewa Beach sit twenty-five miles apart and fail in completely different ways. Windward walls hold moisture and grow mildew in the shade. Leeward and Ewa exteriors bake and chalk under constant sun. Anything near the water carries salt into every surface it touches.

That's why we don't quote from a photo or a square-foot table. We walk the property, look at which way each wall faces, and spec the system for that exposure.
