Almost every peeling, blistering, or chalking exterior we're called to inspect has the same story behind it: the surface wasn't clean, wasn't dry, or wasn't primed before someone rolled paint over it. In Hawaii that shortcut shows up fast — sometimes within a single year.

We treat prep as the actual job. The paint is just what goes on top of it.

Every Surface Gets a Different Approach

Stucco

Common across Hawaii and prone to hairline cracking. Cracks are opened, filled, and sealed before priming so moisture cannot travel behind the coating.

Wood Siding & Trim

Scraped, sanded, and spot-primed. Soft or rotted boards are flagged and repaired first — paint over rot is money thrown away.

Concrete & CMU

Porous and slow to dry. Blocks need proper wash, cure time, and a masonry-appropriate primer before topcoats go on.

Metal Railings & Doors

Coastal salt attacks metal first. Rust is removed to sound substrate, then treated with corrosion-resistant primer.

Soffits, Fascia & Eaves

Shaded areas hold moisture and grow mildew. Treated before priming so it does not bleed back through the new finish.

How often should an exterior be repainted in Hawaii?

Exposure matters more than age. Coastal and full-sun elevations weather fastest; shaded and leeward walls last longer. Most Hawaii exteriors need attention every five to eight years, and a walkthrough tells you which elevations are due now and which can wait.
How long does exterior painting take?

Most single-family homes run three to five working days, and larger or two-story homes five to eight, depending on size, prep needs, and weather. Your written estimate includes a projected schedule.
Do you pressure wash before painting?

Nearly always. Washing removes dirt, chalking, salt, and mildew so the coating can bond. Pressure is matched to the substrate, and surfaces have to dry fully before priming.
What happens if it rains mid-project?

Exterior work pauses and resumes when surfaces are dry. We track the forecast and sequence elevations around weather windows rather than risk a failed coat.
Do you repair siding and stucco before painting?

Yes. Cracks, holes, failed caulking, and rot are addressed before priming. Larger repairs are quoted separately so the cost is visible, not buried.
How do you protect landscaping?

Plants, walkways, fixtures, and outdoor furniture near the work area are masked and covered before prep begins, and the site is cleaned at the end of each day.
